Mpumalanga means ‘the place where the sun rises’ and is aptly known as ‘Paradise country’ as upon visiting the second smallest region in South Africa, the words that spring to mind will most definitely be ‘natural beauty’. The region is dominated by the world’s third deepest canyon whose every turn brings more and more impressive views, like those from God’s Window. The region is best known for its abundance of game reserves, which include one of the world’s largest, the Kruger National Park. With over 2 million hectares the park is bigger than Israel and promises to provide visitors with an unbelievable wildlife experience. The park provides the perfect protected habitat for the Big Five, the Little Five, the birding Big Six and more species of mammals than any other African Game Reserve.

Mpumalanga is characterised by its winding mountain passes, steep valleys, rivers, waterfalls and forests and is the ideal location for some fantastic bird watching, hiking, horse and mountain bike riding or for the more adventurous there is elephant-back safari, white-water rafting and waterfall abseiling.
